Real results

We saw growth when implementing the bar model and strategies we taught them. We use Istation, which is our district's assessment tool, and roughly 70% of students made between one and two years growth in math in four weeks!

Combining simple mental math with materials and targeted activities, the kids realized they ARE mathematical thinkers, they CAN talk about what they know. Everything we did was a hands-on activity which I really, really admired about the experience and DMTI itself. It wasn't a worksheet, it was all manipulatives.

The DMTI program allows teachers to go back (or forward) to different grade levels to pull out those pieces missing from other grades (which helped to fill academic holes.) Fantastic program!!

Math Coach

This was the best math PD I have ever experienced in my 16 years of teaching!

5th Grade Teacher

Having (DMTI staff) in my classroom was the best experience! My kids loved having an expert teach them. I learned more from them teaching that 45 minute lesson than I could have possibly imagined. It was so helpful!

I have taught math and science in several states now, and I found this PD to be one of the most innovative in terms of stretching our mathematical thinking in specific, strategic ways to get the most gains from students. It fundamentally could change our society as a whole if US schools followed DMTI's research.

Why Summer Math Matters More Than You Think

New research from DMTI shows: Math learning accelerates language development.

When students engage in mathematical discourse—explaining their thinking, justifying solutions, using precise vocabulary—they're building literacy skills simultaneously.

"Summer is the perfect time for this dual growth. Less pressure than regular school year, more time for rich mathematical conversations."

Summer Advantages for Math-Language Growth:

  • Less pressure than regular school year
  • More time for rich mathematical conversations
  • Hands-on activities build both math AND language
  • Students who struggle with reading often thrive in math discourse

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions from district decision-makers.

Q: When do we need to decide?

Most districts finalize summer programs by mid-March. We recommend scheduling a planning call by March 1 to ensure materials and PD availability. Late decisions are possible but may limit options.

Q: Can we do just one grade level?

Yes! Many districts start with one grade level as a pilot, then expand the following year. This is a great way to build support and demonstrate results before scaling district-wide.

Q: What if our summer school is only 4 weeks?

Perfect! Each 2-week session is independent. Choose one, two, or all four sessions based on your timeline. The program is designed to be flexible and modular.

Q: Do you provide materials or do we buy separately?

Materials are included in the Full Program and District-Wide packages. The Workshop-only package provides digital resources; manipulatives can be added as an option. We'll help you choose what's best for your budget.

Q: Can you work with our existing summer curriculum?

Yes! We can provide PD and coaching to enhance your existing curriculum, or provide our full program. Many districts use our strategies to strengthen their current materials.

Q: What's the teacher-to-student ratio recommendation?

We recommend 1:15 for optimal small-group work, but our strategies work in larger classes too. We'll help you adapt the program to your specific class sizes.
